Father’s Search for Driver Who Hit His Son Ends with Stunning Twist
A father who started a Facebook campaign to find a hit-and-run driver responsible for injuring his infant son was shocked when police discovered who was responsible.
Jamie Ellison of Gloucester, England turned to social media after his 15-month-old son was hit and left injured in the road on Friday, September 11.
"I beg anyone who was on Hester's Way Road between 8:30 and 8:40....doing school runs or catching a bus… to please call the police and help find who did this to my little man," Ellison posted after visiting his son at a local hospital.
Police later reviewed closed-circuit security footage from the street and discovered that Ellison was the driver responsible.
Ellison was leaving his driveway with his two daughters in the car when he struck the child and drove away without realizing what he'd done. The child was later discovered by passers-by and transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say it appears to have been an accident and they will not treat this as a suspicious incident. Ellison, however, said he will live with the guilt for the rest of his life.
Ellison posted the following message to his local newspaper's Facebook page following the revelation.
"Yes it was me. I just didn't see him or feel a bump, so imagine how I feel right now to be told that I accidentally ran over my own son. Think about that. That guilt will be with me forever.”
Ellison's son is expected to recover with no major injuries. However, this should be a powerful reminder to us all of how fragile the life of a child is, and that we should always take the time to slow down and be careful and observant.
