While thunder was keeping most of us awake last night, firefighters were dealing with smoke and flames.

Temple Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to a home in the 1800 block of South 33rd Street at 1:41 AM Monday. When they arrived, smoke was billowing from the garage and the eaves. Firefighters were able to locate the flames and get them under control by 2:30 AM.

The fire was found to have been unintentional, but investigators didn't determine the cause. The garage received fire, heat, and smoke damage, while the rest of the house received smoke and heat damage. Dollar loss was estimated at $50,000.

The most important thing, however, is that the family of four who were home at the time were able to make it out safely. They're staying with relatives for now.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 4:35 AM.

We can't ever say it enough - thanks to all the first responders out there working day and night to keep us safe. You guys are awesome.
