Killeen ISD Extends Free Meal Service For Rest of School Year
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will provide additional funding for Killeen ISD so the kids can eat for free.
Our partners at KXTX Channel 10 report that the funding will help feed kids through the age of 18 at all KISD campuses through the end of the school year.
The meals are available for children through the age of 18 on any regular school day. The meals are not available on holidays and weekends. As of now, the school year is scheduled to end on May 27, 2021.
For those kids who are doing the virtual learning, they may also continue to pick up their meals at their home campuses at the same time they've been doing so.
There are some changes coming in the pricing for adult meals. Starting January 6th, adult meal prices will rise. Breakfast will be $2.75 and lunch will be $4.75. The district will move from the Summer Food Service Program to the National School Lunch Program and that will reduce the adult lunch price to $4.25.
This should provide some much needed relief for parents who are facing hard times and trying to keep their kids fed while also paying mortgages, rent and bills. No child should go hungry.
