Four adults and a teenager were behind bars Monday after authorities say they broke into two Killeen businesses, then fled from police.

The first break-in occurred at the Start Mart located at 4402 Watercrest Drive around 4:45 AM Sunday, December 4. A witness called 911 to report hearing a loud nose, then seeing several people run out of the store holding merchandise. The witness said they drove away in a silver pickup truck.

Half an hour later, police were contacted by the owner of the Star Mart at 5504 Bunny Trail, who said his security cameras captured footage of a break-in and showed the suspects trying to steal an ATM before fleeing to a silver truck.

Officers responding to the second call spotted a silver Chevy Malibu parked near the scene of the crime. As the officers approached, the car sped away. The officers gave chase, and the car eventually stopped in the area of Trimmier and Stan Schlueter, where three men exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

A 32-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son remained in the vehicle and were arrested. Police say the woman was driving the Malibu.

A 20-year-old suspect who fled from the Malibu was apprehended a short time later in the 1100 block of East Stan Schlueter. The other two suspects – ages 25 and 18 – were arrested in the 5100 block of Trimmier.

Officers soon located a silver Ford F250 pickup in the 5100 block of Imperial Eagle Drive that was reported stolen from the 100 block of West Central Texas Expressway Saturday. Evidence from both burglaries were found in both the Malibu and the F250.

The names of the four adult suspects were being withheld Monday pending formal charges. They were taken to the Killeen City Jail. The 16-year-old was taken to the Bell County Juvenile Detention Center. His name will not be released due to his age.
