New Face Mask Sticker Can Check COVID-19 Exposure
Researchers are developing a new face mask sticker that can determine if you've been exposed to COVID-19.
According to a report from ABC 13, UC San Diego's School of Engineering is researching a new way to detect exposure to COVID-19.
The sticker is placed on your face mask and has a blister pack filled with dye that collects droplets that you breathe out throughout the day. At the end of the day you can puncture the blister pack on the sticker to determine if you've been exposed to COVID-19.
If the dye changes colors than you may have been exposed to COVID-19. The new stickers can adhere to any face mask, so you wouldn't need to worry about replacing the ones you're already using. Researchers have recently received $1.3 million to test the stickers for accuracy.
The stickers only cost a few cents to make, and with their quick exposure results, we could see them being used in the very near future.
Again, if the test comes up positive, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have COVID-19. The test simply reveals your exposure to COVID-19. If you receive a positive result from the face mask sticker, you could work to limit your exposure for yourself and others.
I'm so grateful for modern medicine and science. I hope that we can eradicate this illness as soon as possible. Would you try the face mask sticker before the COVID-19 vaccine? Personally I would be up for trying both, because contracting COVID-19 is not on my to-do list these days.
