Boy, 13, Fatally Shot after Ramming San Antonio Police Car

A 13-year-old boy has died after being shot by San Antonio Police. According to reports, the teen boy was driving a stolen vehicle and rammed a cop car while trying to get away when an officer opened fire.

Reports of big city crime is nothing new. Turn on your evening news and crime reports typically lead off the broadcast. We barely notice it anymore unless it's something shocking. What we do find shocking is when a young teenager gets shot and killed by a police officer.

According to a report from My San Antonio, a San Antonio Police Officer opened fire on the teen after he T-boned a police car while trying to flee the scene in a stolen vehicle.

The incident happened at about 1:30am on Friday, June 3 on the Southwest Side of San Antonio. Officers were responding to a call of shots fired when they encountered the stolen vehicle. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said when the driver of the stolen car realized police had arrived, he tried to reverse the vehicle and rammed a police car behind him.

A police officer shot the driver, who was then taken to University Hospital where he would later die from his injuries. There were two other juveniles in the vehicle and neither of those two were injured.

McManus said the officer opened fire because he feared for his life. He has been put on administrative leave pending further investigation.

KSAT reports that family members identified the 13-year-old as AJ Hernandez. His sister was found dead on May 10 in the back of a stolen car from a gunshot to the head.
