UPDATE: According to our news partners at KWTX-TV, the family of the student stabbed at Belton High School Tuesday morning has confirmed the boy's death. As of 5:18 PM Tuesday, there'd been no official conformation from either Belton ISD or the Belton Police Department.

A report from KXXV-TV identified that student as Jose Ramirez.


 

Our partners at KWTX-TV report that the student taken into custody in connection to Tuesday morning's stabbing at Belton High School is 18-year-od Caysen Tyler Allison. Bell County Jail records show he was booked there at 2:02 PM and charged with an unspecified third degree felony.

In a news release sent at 3:41 PM, City of Belton spokesperson Paul Romer reported that Allison is awaiting formal charges.

Romer wrote that the victim, whose identity officials have not released, is an 18-year-old BHS senior. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple for treatment. The stabbing incident reportedly happened in a bathroom at the school, but officials have not released further details.


The Belton Police Department issued a news release about this incident early Tuesday afternoon providing a few additional details about this morning's stabbing incident at Belton High School.

According to City of Belton spokesman Paul Romer, Belton officers responded to the scene around 9:47 AM. A male student had been stabbed by another  male student, and the school was placed on lockdown.

The stabbing victim was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple. A person of interest in the stabbing fled the school, but was apprehended by police around 10:09 AM.

While news releases from Belton PD have referred to that individual as a "person of interest", Belton Police Chief Gene Ellis referred to him as a "suspect" during a brief video statement issued early Tuesday afternoon.

Police say students and staff were safe Tuesday afternoon, and the school had set up a reunification center for students and parents at Tiger Stadium after releasing students class by class shortly after noon.

Belton Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Matt Smith has said a student is being treated at a local hospital. He did not go into detail about the extent of the student's injuries. Meanwhile, Belton police say a "person of interest" is in custody.



Belton High dismissed students early, and parents were lined up at the school to pick up their children.



 

Belton High School has dismissed students for the day, and school officials are working with families who are trying to pick up their children at the main campus and at Tiger Field.

According to KWTX, "A school district official confirmed to KWTX everyone is okay and the school is working on a reunification plan to reunite students with their families."

Police have also said that an active investigation is in progress.
