Suicidal Waco Woman Safe in Custody After Lengthy Standoff
As a law enforcement officer, you never know what you may have to endure while you are on duty from day to day. Well, the Waco Police Department definitely had quite a situation late Wednesday night.
KWTX reports that a woman with suicidal thoughts is now safe after a long standoff in Waco. Sgt. Patrick Swanton of the Waco Police Department said he received a call to gather the SWAT team in addition to normal units in response to the situation.
A woman was reportedly calling 911 from her home in the 2700 block of Driftwood Street and saying she wanted to take her own life. She initially showed no interest in talking to the negotiators on the scene, but eventually let authorities take her into custody around 5:00 a.m. Thursday. As the talks were taking place, the woman said she was dealing with a personal crisis.
"It's the department's job to aid citizens who are considering suicide and will help them out by getting them to safety," Swanton told KWTX.
No officers were injured during the lengthy standoff.
