Teen Dies Doing a Back Flip Off a Dam in San Marcos

The water tragedies continue in Texas this Summer.

Another set of parents have experienced the worst thing they can in their lives. The loss of their child.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, Michael Hughes, 19, of New Braunfels, died while doing a back flip off a dam at the San Marcos River. The jump took place about 12 feet from the millrace dam at San Marcos' Stokes Park on Saturday afternoon. He hit his head and failed to resurface.

Officials said that Park Rangers pulled Hughes out of the water and began CPR. He was then taken to Central Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just after 5 pm.

We've all been in a situation where someone is doing something that can be classified as "crazy". When they pull it off, they're a hero, or a daredevil. Some even envy their daring. But when the stunt, or high risk move, goes wrong, we all feel horrible for not trying to stop them from doing this crazy thing.

It seems that when the adrenaline of the situation kicks in it takes over the spot in the brain where the thought..."what if you miss and die, how will your loved ones feel?" And once the adrenaline wears off, that thought comes back and you find yourself shaking your head and thinking..."man that was stupid". That is if you're lucky enough to be able to have that thought.
