Temple Legend Gene Pemberton Passes Away at Age 79
For 28 years the voice of Gene Pemberton took to the local airwaves to share Temple Wildcat football with Central Texas. After an amazing life and career, Gene was called home over the weekend at the age of 79.
At Townsquare Media, we had the absolute honor to work with Gene during both phases of his amazing career. In the booth, and as the host of Wildcat halftime, Gene was a true professional and a friend.
While we all will remember Gene in our own way, the staff at KTEM and Townsquare Media Killeen-Temple would like to share with you a couple of special conversations we have saved in the archive that features Gene in recent years remembering back to some of the golden days of his career.
While many media outlets knew and worked with Gene, the staff at KTEM and our 4 other radio stations got to see Gene and talk to him week after week for many years. He was part of our very large family when you think of all the folks who have worked here over the years, and we always enjoyed hearing about everything from the "Hot Air Club" to the many stories about Texas superstars. Sometimes the stories even included lessons about life. Gene was a kind man and a great friend. He loved him some Wildcat football.
Listen in now as we present a Trilogy of memories as Gene visits with his longtime friend Bob McQueen, Coach Marcine Cottle, and Wildcat Randy Holtzclaw. Memorial information will follow the videos below.
Visitation for Gene will be Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Road.
Gene's memorial will take place this Saturday at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 22621 SE H.K. Dodgen Loop in Temple. The services will begin at 11 am.
