There's a new roadway project coming to east Bell County early next month, and it's expected to last for a little over three years.

In a news release issued Tuesday, May 26, Texas Department of Transportation - Waco District Public Information Officer Jake Smith reported that TxDOT will begin work on widening US Highway 190 from a two-lane to a four-lane divided roadway on Monday, June 1.

The work will span from two miles south of FM 436 in Heidenheimer to the Milam County line. Crews will also be constructing a a bypass that will branch off east of Rogers, then reconnect with US Highway 190.

The 7.3-mile project is expected to last until early 2024 at a cost of approximately $77.8 million.

According to Smith, TxDOT expects the impact on traffic to be minimal for the majority of the project, but urged drivers to be on the lookout for crews, equipment, and signage as the work is going on.

Some crews will be out conducting traffic control, so if your commute takes along this stretch of road, keep your eyes open and give workers plenty of space. Drivers are also asked to slow their speed as they approach work zones.

Do you drive along this route each day? What do you think of this project? Let us know in the comments.

Additional Traffic Note: Beginning tonight (May 26, 2020) and continuing May 27 and May 28, crews will close the right northbound lane of I-35 from Old Blevins Road to TX7/FM107 just south of Eddy starting at Mile Marker 314 from 7 PM to 7 AM. Crews will be conducting repairs to the roadway. [SEE MAP]

If you're driving along that route tonight, be on the lookout for work zones, equipment, and workers, and give them as much space as you can.
