Waco Dog Park Closes Abruptly
The H.O.T Dog Park in Waco closed it's gates at the beginning of the year and many doggies are sad to hear the news.
According to our news partners at KWTX, the H.O.T Dog Park closed on New Years Day with an announcement posted on the gate.
The park was originally opened in 2011 and the land the park is on is owned by Veterinarian Dr. Lu Ann Ervin. Dr. Ervin also ran the Texas Animal Medical Center next door to the park, but she has recently retired and placed the land for sale.
As a dog owner in Waco, I was immediately saddened hearing the news. The H.O.T Dog Park was the only off-leash dog park in the city. My son, Sonny (yes, I know he's a dog) loved taking trips to the dog park and getting in a good run. Sonny enjoyed play dates where he could meet up with his fellow K9 friends, and it's sad to know that those play dates may not be able to happen again.
Other dog owners in the area have created a Facebook page to discuss ideas that could help keep the park open. Currently the group has over 300 members. The page has also been a great place to stroll through memory lane and share how important the park has been to all of us.
