If you haven’t noticed yet, it’s cold outside. Like really cold. So cold that the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Central Texas until Monday night. Governor Greg Abbott has also officially issued a disaster declaration advising all of Texas to stay safe during this time

However we will not necessarily be in the clear after that as Tuesday and Wednesday could have snowfall as well.

Sleet has already been falling over the past couple of days, covering this Texas in ice. The roads are slick making driving a very dangerous idea. I, like many others, have had to spend some time breaking the ice covering my car before I could even get inside.

I have never seen it snow more than once a year in Texas, so this week is kind of crazy to me. If you are like me and have been in Texas all your life, then you probably are not used to this kind of weather. I am by no means an expert on this kind of stuff, but here are some tips I have learned in my 20 years.

Make sure you leave your faucets to drip and have your heat on to avoid your water pipes freezing over. Stay off the roads as much as possible, only leave in an emergency. When driving GO SLOW! This will reduce your chances of slipping when driving. Be ready to stay hunkered down for a few days, it is better to be overprepared than underprepared.

Stay safe everyone!
