Temple firefighters will be on local street corners Thursday through Saturday, April 9 through 11 for the annual Fill the Boot campaign benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Each year, firefighters collect cash donations from passing motorists. Donations can also be dropped at the Temple Fire & Rescue Training Center at 7268 Airport Road, Thursday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In 2014, Temple firefighters raised over $40,000. Much of that money went to help provide comprehensive health care and support services for over 700 local families, including three clinics provided free of charge to patients, assistance with repairs of medical equipment, and an equipment loan program. Proceeds also benefit an annual summer camp for muscular dystrophy patients at Camp John Marc in Meridian.

The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) is MDA’s largest national sponsor, helping raise funds for over 60 years to aid the MDA in assisting patients of neuromuscular diseases and their families.

MDA is the world’s leading nonprofit health organization sponsoring research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular disease. MDA research grants currently support more than 250 projects worldwide.
