Wild Chase in Troy, Texas Ends After Police Shoot Suspect

After allegedly leading police on a chase Monday night along I-35 that included going into oncoming traffic, the driver of a U-Haul truck is in the hospital after being shot by two police officers in Troy, Texas.

Temple Police received a call on November 7th about a vehicle being pursued on southbound I-35 near Troy, and Hill County officials believed the vehicle was involved in an Amber Alert out of San Antonio, Texas, according to a media release.

Monday Night Chase Ends at Love's Truck Stop

The vehicle, a U-Haul box truck with an unknown male driver, came into the city limits of Troy, driving against traffic on the service road and the interstate. Then the U-Haul went through the downtown area of Troy, stopping on Church Street between Love’s Truck Stop and Love’s Boulevard.

Law enforcement officials including Troy Police, Temple Police, and Bell County Sheriff's Office were assisting in the chase. Before stopping the U-Haul, the driver also attempted to ram police vehicles. Both a Troy Police officer and a Temple Police officer discharged their duty handguns at the driver of the U-Haul, and the suspect was taken into custody then transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. He is in stable condition, according to the Temple Police Department.

KWTX is reporting that the Texas Department of Public safety has confirmed the wounded man was not the suspect in the Amber Alert for a missing San Antonio, Texas teenager.
