Clown Threat Prompts Caution at Belton High School
Belton Police assisted Belton ISD officials in ensuring student safety Monday after an online threat generated concern.
A Twitter user with the handle "@Clown254" posted an ominous message Sunday night reading, "Belton high school better be shut down tomorrow or else". An hour later, they posted, "@BeltonISD be ready for tomorrow".
Some parents took to Facebook to express their frustration concerning the so-called "creepy clown" trend, which has recently wormed its way into Texas.
"[T]he Killeen Police Department has no reason to believe at this time that the threats are credible," a news release reads. "[T]hey are nonetheless disturbing and are being taken seriously."
Correction: A previous version of this article stated that Belton High had been placed on a soft lockdown Monday morning in response to the online threat. A Belton ISD official reached out to KTEM News to let us know that this was not the case. We apologize for any confusion and concerned caused by the mistake.
