The nationwide average price right now for regular unleaded gasoline is $3.76 per gallon. The state with the cheapest gas prices in the country is Mississippi, with an average of $3.07. A statewide average of $3.10 puts Texas in second place for lowest price per gallon.

The changing seasons are one of the factors in dropping fuel prices. Despite the fact that it's hard to predict the price of gasoline going forward, according to KXII,  AAA spokesperson Daniel Armbruster,

Gas prices will continue to fall, demand is falling which is typical for this time of year now that summer driving season is over. With that usually there’s already been the switch over to winter blend gasoline, which is cheaper than the summer blend by 10 to 20 cents per gallon.

The highest price recorded by AAA in Texas was earlier this year in mid-June, when regular unleaded hit $4.69 a gallon.

As of this writing, the American Automobile Association (AAA) reports that gas prices are dropping in 22 states, including Texas. The lowest price in Texas for regular unleaded gas is currently $2.35 a gallon in Palestine, Texas, according to gasbuddy.com.
