A lot of us are looking for ways to save money, whether it's at the grocery store or on the road. The average American spends over $1800 a year on gas - the highest price in eight years.

It's certainly more of a challenge to save at the pump right now, as gas prices are going up again, with crude oil currently around $80 a barrel.

Why Are Gas Prices Rising?

Part of the problem, according to AAA, is reduced production due to protests and violence in Kazakhstan. Before recent events, the country was pumping nearly 2 million barrels of crude oil per day.

The average gas price in Texas right now is $2.89, but GasBuddy is predicting that the surge in fuel prices could result in $4 a gallon gas by the spring of 2022.

Nerdwallet.com has several tips that can help you save money while filling up, including using a gas price app, choosing a reward card, and buying the right fuel for your vehicle.

Where's the Cheapest Gas in Texas?

As of January 10th, the lowest price in the state per gallon according to gasbuddy.com is $2.43 at a Conoco in Mansfield.

In Central Texas, Sam's Club in Harker Heights has the cheapest price at the pump, with regular at $2.59 a gallon.

Driving experts suggest slowing down on the highway to save gas, avoiding extra weight in your vehicle any longer than necessary, and keeping your tires rotated and inflated to the proper pressure.
