Fort Hood officials on Thursday released the name of a Soldier who died Monday in the Bell County Jail.

Sgt. Marcus Lamarr Nelson Sr., 45, whose home of record is listed as Detroit, Michigan, entered active-duty service in April 2005 as a Petroleum Supply Specialist. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since June 2015.

Nelson deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2008 to September 2009 and from September 2006 to September 2007.

Nelson's awards and decorations include the three Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, three Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with four campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and three Overseas Service Ribbons.

Circumstances surrounding this incident remained under investigation Thursday.
