During a hearing Monday, judge Col. Tara Osborn ruled that Fort Hood shooting suspect Nidal Hasan is fit to represent himself. Now Hasan is requesting a three month delay in the trial in order to prepare for his defense. Hasan had previously said he wouldn’t need extra time, but a hearing Tuesday will decide if he should be granted a delay.

Jury selection is set to begin Wednesday barring a delay. Hasan says he’ll use a “defense of others” argument to plead his case, but has not elaborated upon what he means by that. Having chosen to represent himself, Hasan will be able to question witnesses, many of whom will be victims of his attack.
