Man Commits Suicide in Moody Following Police Pursuit
KWTX shared tragic news out of Moody Thursday morning.
Rhyan Henson, Kathleen Serie, and Paul J. Gately report that a man (whose name had not been released Thursday afternoon) took his own life after leading police who went to check on him in a traffic pursuit Thursday morning.
The man's mother contacted McGregor police after her son called her, distraught over his girlfriend breaking up with him. McLennan County deputies were called to assist police as they paid the man a welfare visit.
When officers tried to talk to the man, he reportedly got into a truck and sped away. Police and deputies pursued the truck, but backed away upon learning that he was armed and having suicidal thoughts.
The truck was later spotted in a field in Moody. When officers attempted to contact the man, he fatally wounded himself.
The case remained under investigation Thursday afternoon.
