Motorcyclist Killed in Highway 190 Crash

Killeen police are reminding drivers to be careful and cautious while driving through construction zones after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on US Highway 190 Monday evening.

Investigators say 33-year-old Ellsworth Allen Raup III was riding a Honda motorcycle eastbound along 190 when he began following a Toyota mini-van too closely.

The two vehicles entered a construction area near the Knight's Way exit, where traffic was being diverted to a single lane. The van quickly slowed to a near stop, and Raup was unable to slow quickly enough. He crashed into the back of the mini-van, was ejected from the motorcycle, and crashed through the back window of the van.

Raup sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:21 PM.

The driver of the mini-van was transported to the Seton Medical Center with minor injuries.
