As a parent, I want to know exactly where my children are at all times. Not being able to get to your child during an emergency can be terrifying for a parent, especially when there's a lockdown at their school and you aren't getting any details.

Harker Heights High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday (Feb. 16), and parents want to know why. I was scrolling Facebook when I spotted the news  on a private page. A concerned parent said her child was inside the school, and she was having to calm her down over the phone. However, nobody was sure why the school was taking emergency measures.

WHAT WAS GOING ON AT HARKER HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL?

Another parent in the private Facebook group posted a screenshot of a notification they'd received stating that the school took protective measures in response to threats received via social media. They didn't share details as to the nature of the threats.

The Killeen Daily Herald's Eric Shelton reported that that the school was, in fact, under a "secure hold" Wednesday morning, meaning no one was allowed in or out of the school until shortly after Noon.

THANKS FOR TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY

I do appreciate that the school and authorities having taken this very seriously. It’s just nerve racking not knowing exactly what is going on with our children. I’ve noticed over the school year, when threats were made, a lot of them have been false alarms. Still, it's good to see that Killeen schools don't take threats lightly and will put student safety first.

Top 20 Restaurants Central Texans Wish Would Come to Temple

A while back, I asked the good people of Temple if they could picture a good restaurant to fill the lot on North General Bruce Drive where the soon to be torn down Long John Silver's stood.

This was before it was announced that a Dutch Bros. Coffee location would open there (which was one of the places I predicted as a contender in our article).

So now Dutch Bros. is open in that spot, but the responses to my survey were interesting because they paint a picture of just how diverse Temple's population is. People recommended some familiar restaurants with locations in the surrounding area, but also a few I'd never even heard of.

Here are the top 20 results of the survey. Let's see what the good people of Temple are craving!
