Self-Proclaimed Pastor Stiffs Waiter on Tip Because He Already “Gave to God”

Waiting tables can be rough, especially if some cheapskate stiffs you on a hard-earned tip. A server recently found himself in such a situation after a man claiming to be a pastor refused a gratuity because he already "gave to God." Hey, whatever happened to acts of charity?

According to a post on Reddit, an 18% percent tip was added to the bill because it involved a party of 20. But when it came time to pay, the man refused to fork over extra cash, adding the word "Pastor" before his name and writing "I give God 10%. Why do you get 18?" on the receipt.

The server claims the tip was automatically added by the restaurant and was beyond his control. "Parties up to eight at my work may tip whatever they’d like," he wrote, "but larger parties receive an automatic gratuity. It’s in the computer, it’s not something I do."

Although the gratuity policy was listed on the menu, the diner apparently thought he could forgo the tip by claiming a kinship with the Almighty. We're no experts on religion, but as far as we know, stinginess isn't exactly next to godliness.
