Temple Playground Fire Set by Three Juveniles, Investigators Say
Temple Fire Marshal investigators say they know who set a fire that destroyed a playground at Temple's Jefferson Neighborhood Park in late January.Thomas Pechal with Temple Fire & Rescue said Wednesday that information from the public and subsequent interviews led investigators to three juvenile boys as possible suspects.
Evidence was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney's Office on Friday, February 3, and the suspects' cases are expected to proceed through the juvenile court system.
Pechal thanked the public for their help, but did not release the boys' ages; nor did he say how or why they started the fire.
The playground at 2310 Monticello Road was installed in autumn of 2015 at a cost of $147,000. It was destroyed by fire on January 29, 2017.
