Bomb Threat Closes Temple City Hall
The City of Temple, Texas is breathing a sigh of relief after a bomb scare at City Hall.
Bomb Threat Against Temple City Hall
According to Nohely Mackowiak with the City of Temple, police received an anonymous call bomb threat against the Municipal Building at 2 North Main Street around 1:50 PM Thursday. Police quickly and safely evacuated the building and set up a perimeter, and issued noticed to nearby businesses.
K-9 units with the Killeen Police Department and the Precinct 4 Constable's Office were called in to help with TPD's investigation. Thankfully, no explosive devices were found and no injuries were reported.
Police Gave the All Clear
By 3:50 PM, police had determined that the building and surrounding areas were safe, and they issued an all clear.
Temple Police Are Looking For a Suspect
Unfortunately, police don't currently know who issued the threat, but they're determined to find out.
In a news release issued late Thursday afternoon, Temple PD warned that making a false bomb threat could be considered a terrorist threat, which is a third-degree felony punishable by anywhere from two years to a decade in prison along with a $10,000 fine.
Downtown Temple Closure
You may have found yourself in the Downtown Temple area Thursday afternoon and noticed a lot more commotion than usual. Streets were closed off and many people were walking around with concerned looks on their faces. Now you know why.
I'm happy to report everyone is ok, but someone certainly caused the scare they were going for.
