Two Killed as Chartered El Paso ISD Bus Collides With Truck
Two people were killed and seventeen injured early Sunday morning when a bus carrying El Paso student athletes collided head-on with a pickup truck.
KVIA-TV reports that the chartered bus was carrying 25 youth track athletes and several coaches returning from a regional meet in Lubbock. Around 1 AM, the westbound bus was hit head-on by a pickup truck driving in the wrong direction along Highway 62/180 in Hudspeth County.
At a press conference Sunday, El Paso ISD officials announced that Irvin High School social sciences teacher and track coach Arcadio Duran was fatally wounded in the crash and died at the scene. Another adult was also killed, but their names was not immediately available.
Injured staff and students were taken to an area hospital with non-critical, non-life threatening injuries.
