The city of Temple Public Works and Temple Fire and Rescue are investigating what exactly is in the water in Bird Creek in South Temple.

The water in the creek appears to be the color red at times. Temple's Fire Department had a hazardous materials crew conducting tests on the water on Friday but found "no identifiable chemical hazards" according to a press release.

At the moment, it is believed to be caused by some sort of vegetation. Officials do not believe there is any danger in the red water, but crews are removing it for disposal into the sewer system for treatment.
