Texas Mourns DPS Officer Shot and Killed on Thanksgiving
Just two weeks after the Texas Department of Public Safety laid a Temple trooper to rest, another DPS officer has been killed in the line of duty.
DPS Trooper Damon Allen of Mexia was shot and killed on Thursday afternoon during a traffic stop on I-45 in Freestone County near Fairfield. The video above is from KRIS News 6.
The shooting caused a massive Thanksgiving Day manhunt for the suspect who was later identified as Dabrett Black of Lindale, Texas. He is now in custody.
Our news partners at KWTX released a statement from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton who wrote, "I am saddened to hear of the tragic death of a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper killed today in Freestone County. This trooper died selflessly serving Texas. Please join Angela and me as we pray for the trooper's family and for the entire Department of Public Safety."
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Trooper Allen. Please join us in thanking all the DPS Troopers who have served over the Thanksgiving Holiday, and for their unceasing efforts to to keep Texans safe.
