Back and Better Than Ever! Is Beto Aiming to be Texas Governor?
Beto knows how to keep the people in suspense, and word on the street is that he's getting ready to take on Gov. Abbott.
According to a report from Axios, former U.S. House representative Beto O'Rourke is planning to announce his official run against Governor Greg Abbott for the November 2022 gubernatorial election.
2018 Texas Senate Race
Beto previously ran an extremely tight race for Texas Senator against Ted Cruz in 2018. Coming closer than any Democrat in years, Beto was narrowly defeated by a margin of less than 3%. In fact, Beto set a record for most votes ever cast for a Democrat in Texas history. Due to Beto's vast popularity, young voter turnout in early voting rose 500%.
Gov. Abbott's Numbers Decline
While O'Rourke's popularity is rising, Gov. Abbott is seeing his numbers take a dive. According to a new poll from The Dallas Morning News and University of Texas at Tyler, 30% of people strongly disapprove of the way Governor Greg Abbott is handing his job.
Big Competition?
Of course, there are still rumors that Hollywood star and Texas native Matthew McConaughey will run against Abbott next November. The survey revealed that 44% of people would choose McConaughey over Abbott in an election. Like Beto, McConaughey has yet to officially toss his hat into the ring, but Texans appear to be on the edge of their seat yearning for his answer.
The Waiting Game
We're still over a year away from the 2022 Texas gubernatorial election on November 8. While other Republicans have announced plans to run in the race, it doesn't appear that we have any official Democratic contenders.
