Under normal circumstances, the only reason for whipping out your phone during a graduation ceremony is to film it and snap some pictures. If you happened to be at Bruceviille-Eddy's graduation ceremony Friday, you and your phone got to play a vital role in the festivities.

A strong storm struck the area Friday evening, knocking the power out.

Now, the Class of 2021, like the Class of 2020, has already been through enough over the past year. They really didn't need a catastrophe like a blackout ruining their big day.

Thankfully, everyone and their grandma (and every cousin from far and wide) has a phone in their pocket or purse nowadays, and most of them have a flashlight feature.

The ceremony was able to go on because the good people in attendance lit it up with their phones!

I graduated from Troy High School in 2005, when cell phones barely had cameras. Man, I feel old.

Anyway, congratulations to the Class of 2021! You, your teachers, and your families have already tackled so many obstacles over the past year. No one would expect you to let a little power outage stop you from walking across that stage and into your future.
