Police Identify Morgan’s Point Diver Fatally Injured While Assisting in Fort Hood Search
The Morgan's Point Resort community is mourning the loss of a woman who was fatally injured Sunday while helping search for a missing person on Fort Hood.
Lori Pohanka-Kalama was a volunteer diver for the Morgan's Point Police Department. According to a news release from Fort Hood, Pohanka-Kalama was rescued from House Creek by a boat team shortly after 6:30 PM Saturday and rushed to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center before being transferred to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple. She passed away early Sunday morning.
Pohanka-Kalama was one of many volunteers helping in the search for a missing driver whose car was swept into Clear Creek near Turkey Run Road on Fort Hood early Tuesday, April 11. Morgan's Point Police released her identity Sunday night on Facebook, where members of the community and other law enforcement agencies mourned her loss and expressed their appreciation for her service.
In a news release, Fort Hood officials said Army investigators and Morgan's Point Police are conducting separate investigations of Pohanka-Kalama's death.
